Researchers have shared the special moment they heard a humpback whale singing in Hawai’ian waters.
“During a recent vessel survey with the University of Hawai‘i Marine Mammal Research Program, our team captured this awe-inspiring underwater video of a humpback whale singing in Hawai‘i,” says Pacific Whale Foundation on Facebook.
"The song was so powerful researchers could feel the vibrations through their feet!”

Although the video initially looks like a blank shot of the blue ocean, the NGO mentions that – if you look carefully – you can just see the humpback in the distance two thirds of the way through the footage. Researchers and members of the public alike are mesmerised by whale song.
"What’s truly fascinating? Humpback whale songs evolve over time, spreading through cultural exchange as whale populations interact,” says Pacific Whale Foundation.
"Parts of their songs can travel vast distances across oceans, revealing just how connected these magnificent animals are on a global scale.”
