A divemaster in the Maldives was in for a special treat when she happened upon a large group of baby pufferfish.
“I felt so lucky!” says Anaelle Henry, who spotted the group of fish while diving in the Maldives.
Henry was on her safety stop – the short pause scuba divers take at the end of a dive, around 5 metres deep, before returning to the surface (to prevent decompression sickness) – when she saw “a huge ball of fish”. As they allowed her to edge closer, she realised they were pufferfish.
“It seems it’s really rare to see this,” she says. “A lot of my diver friends told me they haven’t seen it before.”
The incredible sighting is a reminder to always keep your eyes open in nature as there could be a surprise when you’re least expecting it. “This is what I love the most when I dive,” she says. “We never know what ocean will bring us as a surprise.”
