The new nature documentary series, which took 3 years to make, will feature incredible never-before-seen footage of remarkable animal behaviours.
The Secret Lives of Animals showcases 77 unique species in 24 countries around the world, highlighting the intelligence of animals. The show is produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit – who have also produced Planet Earth III, Frozen Planet II and Dynasties – and is the third collaboration between the BBC Studios Natural History Unit and Apple TV+.
Previous collaborations include Tiny World, which focused on some of the smallest animals found across the world and featured Paul Rudd as its narrator.
Where can I watch The Secret Lives of Animals?
The Secret Lives of Animals is available to watch on Apple TV+ from 18th December. There are 10 episodes in the series.
What is The Secret Lives of Animals about?
Each episode of The Secret Lives of Animals delves into pivotal moments in the life cycles of various animals – from birth and leaving home to raising a family, and from finding food to growing old. Highlights include a spider that can weave a deceptive 'self-portrait' puppet to deter predators, a wood mouse that creates its own signposts to stop it from getting lost, and an unexpected relationship between a reticulated humming frog and a burrowing tarantula.
Who narrates The Secret Lives of Animals?
Actor Hugh Bonneville (of Paddington and Downton Abbey fame) narrates the series. One of the animals set to feature in the show is a sun bear – and while the character of Paddington Bear is based on the Andean (or spectacled) bear, there's no denying that this small bear looks like it could dish out a hard stare.
