From Academy Award-winning director Pippa Ehrlich of My Octopus Teacher, this new documentary follows a pangolin named Kulu on his journey from trafficked pangopup to wilderness-ready rehabilitation.
APWG Ambassador Gareth Thomas spent over a year with Kulu, the two immersed side-by-side in the world of wildlife trafficking and rewilding. The APWG hopes that the documentary will allow many millions of Netflix viewers to better understand the plight of pangolins and – hopefully – enact positive change.
Director Pippa Erlich says, “This film tells a story of love, trust, and understanding that I believe will resonate deeply with everyone who watches. Pangolins are such remarkable creatures—gentle and shy, with their own special charm. By following Kulu and Gareth's journey, we hope it will inspire viewers to see the beauty and importance of these extraordinary animals who are sadly the world's most trafficked wild mammals.”
“This is a level of public awareness that has the potential to spark a tide of conversations and a public will to change the outcome for this animal,” says Alexis Kriel, co-chair of the APWG. “It’s likely to bring about a passion for pangolins that will alter their current trajectory towards extinction.”
