Chris Packham and step-daughter Megan McCubbin, zoologist and naturalist, first hit our screens as a double act during the pandemic in 2019 with their Self Isolating Bird Club. We saw them again presenting this year's Springwatch alongside the other presenters. Now we take off with them on an epic road trip across the country in their electric campervan, in search of fantastic animal encounters.
They'll meet puffins in Pembrokeshire, red kites and sand lizards in Snowdonia, swim with grey seals in Northumberland, and hope for a rare glimpse of orcas in the Western Isles.
When is Chris and Meg's Wild Summer on TV?
Chris and Meg's Wild Summer begins on Sunday 29 August on BBC Two at 8.30pm, and will be available on BBC iPlayer after.
What is Chris and Meg's Wild Summer about?
Long-time Springwatch presenter Chris Packham and his step-daughter Megan McCubbin – who joined the show during lockdown – take off in an electric campervan to explore the UK in search of remarkable wildlife. They'll travel through some of the country’s last untouched wildernesses, journeying through the untamed beauty of Wales, the North of England and Scotland.
As two generations travel and spend time together, their journey becomes an exploration of not just our changing natural world and our place in it, but of their own stepfather-daughter relationship.
Across the six episodes, Chris and Megan will explore the stunning natural beauty and wildlife of South West Wales, Snowdonia, the Lake District, Northumberland, the Cairngorms and the Western Isles.
Who are Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin?
Generation X-ers will remember Chris Packham from the 1980s CBBC wildlife programme, The Really Wild Show, co-hosted by fellow Watches presenter Michaela Strachan. Packham replaced Bill Oddie as a Springwatch presenter in 2009. Packham is known for his environmental campaigning, nature photography and campaign work towards autism awareness, having asperger's syndrome himself.
Megan McCubbin is his step-daughter, and grew up learning from his passion for the natural world. She became a naturalist herself, qualifying in zoology and is fast following in Chris's footsteps as a TV presenter and author.
