Alex Lancaster

Alex Lancaster is a Conservation Biologist studying his PhD at the University of Chester, specifically working on the competition and conflicts between wild guanaco and domestic sheep in Southern Patagonia, Chile. Growing up in rural Lancashire, he spent much of his time on walks in the countryside and setting up trail cameras to observe the local wildlife (mainly badgers, foxes and roe deer). Following a love for wildlife and conservation, he pursued a degree in Ecology at the University of Hull, where he specialised in resource competition in wildlife populations. Traditionally a terrestrial biology specialist, he has also spent a little time working on marine biology projects, including a short stay on a boat working with great white sharks! Most recently, he has spent time living and working in Chile, where he collected behavioural data on interactions between sheep and guanaco and the ways in which their foraging behaviour changes when the other species is present. He also works on the conservation physiology of guanaco, examining the ways in which the presence of domestic sheep affects various hormone responses in guanaco - through examining their poo!
