RSPB Spotlight: Badgers
Written by the nature and travel writer, and BBC Wildlife contributor, James Lowen, this book from the RSPB Spotlight series is all about badgers. It’s a comprehensive guide to these striped mammals, with an introduction that touches on the wider Mustelidae family (which also includes otters, weasels and stoats, pine martens and honey badgers) and other badgers around the world.
The chapters include ‘Breeding and Growth’, ‘Social Life and Communication’ and ‘Threats and Conservation’, and it’s all written in an accessible tone and accompanied by photographs and graphics.
Geometric badger jumper

Made from organic cotton, this crewneck jumper from the Wildlife Trusts is available in grey or black and features a geometric badger. It is made in a renewable energy powered factory and printed in the UK with low waste printing technology.
Badger cross stitch kit
How lovely is this cross stitch design of a badger amongst bluebells? The pattern has been created by the well-known cross-stitch brand Bothy Threads, based on an original print by artist Hannah Dale (the genius behind the very popular Wrendale Designs).
The kits contains 14-count Zweigart Aida cloth that comes with a pre-printed speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle, a stitch diagram and instructions. The dimensions of the finished product measures 26 x 26cm, and the stitches needed are full cross stitches and back stitch.

From the Living Nature brand, this super soft badger plush toy is great for kids (suitable from birth) and young-at-heart adults, and measures 30cm in length.
Festive Forest Mug
- Buy now from Sophie Allport (£14.00).
Whilst the extensive Sophie Allport range doesn’t include a badger-specific range of products (possibly missing a trick there!), a badger does appear in the Festive Forest range alongside hedgehogs, hares, owls, robins and squirrels.
This mug is made fine bone china, is hand decorated and finished in Stoke on Trent in the UK, and is dishwasher and microwave safe. It is available in two sizes: standard (275ml) and large (425ml).

Badger and Fox food
- Buy now from Amazon (£20.00), Wild Things (£4.99).
Made by Wild Things (part of Pets Choice Ltd, a UK pet food manufacturer), these pellets are made of a special formulation of meat, protein, carbohydrates and fats with added vitamins and minerals, specifically for European badgers and red foxes. It is advised that 200g pellets are placed in a shallow disk in a quiet corner of the garden before dusk, together with a dish of water.
It’s available to buy in 2kg bags, and the Amazon link also provides the option to buy a food dish at the same time.
Whilst the food has mostly received good reviews online, some reviewers state that their foxes or badgers aren’t eating it (or that they preferred wet dog food).

Badger embroidery kit
This adorable badger embroidery pattern by Hawthorn Handmade is aimed at beginners. The kit contains pre-printed cotton fabric, stranded cotton threads in six colours, a wooden embroidery hoop, a needle, an illustrated stitch guide and instructions.
The pattern includes a number of different embroidery stitches to learn and try out, including backstitch, chain stitch, French knots and satin stitch.

Hanging badger Christmas decoration
Bring badgers to your Christmas decorations this festive season with this lovely ornament from the RSPB. Made from resin, the ornament measures 7cm high (excluding the hanging ribbon) and features a badger sitting on a toadstool-covered log.
The RSPB has also produced a matching hanging fox Christmas decoration (plus, this other fox Christmas decoration which is also adorable!).
